Custom Braces

Whether you suffer from osteoarthritis and require additional support to help you through your day-to-day activities or require a brace to get you back to your favourite sport, Shawn Turner, Orthopedic Technician, has the expertise to help. With over 20 years of custom brace fitting, Shawn will meet with you at the clinic to provide a free consultation and discuss the benefits of custom knee ‘off-loader’ or custom ACL braces. Our custom braces are DonJoy products.

What is involved?

At your initial visit, Shawn will take a detailed history of your condition, functional limitations, abilities and goals. After a physical assessment and taking measurements, Shawn will provide a quote that you will then submit to your insurance company. A physician written prescription for a custom knee brace is often required before your insurance company will approve reimbursement.

Once the brace has been manufactured, Shawn will meet with you to provide education on how to put your brace on and how to take care of it. He provides a fitting follow-up at 2 weeks and 2 months post initial fitting, there is fitting warranty for up to 1 year which Shawn is readily available for.

Orthotics

We have partnered with BioPed Kingston to provide on-site expertise for custom orthotics. Leane Carriere is a Certified Pedorthist who is registered with the College of Pedorthics of Canada.

An orthotic assessment includes a gait analysis, which involves an evaluation of how your feet, knees and hips function while you walk. The differences between both custom and off-the-shelf orthotics will be discussed and if custom is right for you, then Leane will proceed with making a negative-cast mold. A follow-up appointment is scheduled for fitting and on-site adjustments can be made in order to achieve the optimal fit. Leane is available on bi-monthly Wednesdays in the Wellness Centre, an appointment needs to be scheduled prior to your visit.
