Reflexology dates back over 5000 years ago.  Some of the earliest findings are from Egypt where a pictogram depicting foot work was found in the tomb of an Egyptian doctor. Records are found as well in China and India.  Today, reflexology can be found all over the world in many cultures.

Reflexology is a natural therapy based on the principle that there are reflexes mapped on the feet, hands and ears that correspond to all the organs, glands and body parts.  There are more than 7200 nerve endings in each foot which connect toall areas of the body through the spinal cord and brain.  Reflexology releases endorphins, the chemical messengers that produce a calming sensation, and suppress pain.  By stimulating these reflexes and nerve endings, of the feet, through the application of pressure and touch, reflexology improves blood supply to all areas of the body,  stimulates the lymphatic system to help boost the immune system, improves circulation, increases oxygen from the lungs to all tissues and promotes the natural function of the body.  It is a holistic, non-invasive therapy that looks at the body as a whole.

Reflexologists do not diagnose, prescribe medications or treat for specific conditions.  We simply assist the body to return to a state of balance and calm to help it heal itself.

What can Reflexology help with?

Reflexology helps all systems of our body to work at their best.  Every session is unique to the person themself.  Some of the many things Reflexology can help with are;

  • Anxiety, stress, & depression
  • Improves circulation, digestive issues, & migraines
  • Immune functions, PMS, sleeping, and many others

Who can receive a reflexology session?

Reflexology can be performed on most everyone.  There are some contraindications for certain health issues and can be discussed prior to the session.

What can I expect in a Reflexology Session?

At your initial session, a health history is completed with the therapist.  You will lay comfortably on a massage table remaining fully clothed with the exception of your socks and shoes.  You are encouraged to communicate and ask questions during the session

if you wish.  It is common for the client to fall asleep during the session as the body is placed in a relaxed state.

It is also common to experience some mild side effects after the session such as, headache, lightheaded, tiredness, energized, weepy, cold or hot etc.  These are normal reactions to your body ridding itself of toxins.

How often should I receive Reflexology and how long does a session last?

If you are dealing with a specific illness or condition, you may need to have more frequent sessions.  This can be discussed with the therapist.  A general recommendation would be to begin with a session every week for 4-6 weeks, followed by a maintenance session once every four or five weeks.

As well, if you are looking for a way to reset and relax, a session of reflexology would be a wonderful option.

Each session lasts 60 minutes.
